Editor’s Note: Brian Lenny is a new State Senator from District 13. As a member of the Idaho Freedom Caucus, he has quickly become a bold voice standing up for THE PEOPLE of Idaho.
As pointed out in a recent True Idaho News Op-Ed, Idaho’s Republican Party is infiltrated by people who call themselves conservatives but are not. They claim that label ONLY to get elected.
One would think that an electorate who votes for conservatives indicates that the voters want a small and limited government. These so-called Republicans don’t care about that. They want only power. They mislead to get elected and then happily spend our money so they can LOOK helpful and LOOK like someone who cares.
They’ll TELL you they’re conservative. They’re voting record betrays that.
They’re either ignorant as hell about what a conservative is, or they lie.
Idahoans MUST learn to differentiate Republicans who abide by the party platform from the Judas Republicans who run as R’s only to get elected. Brian Lenny is definitely the former.

Op-Ed by Brian Lenny
The Idaho Freedom Caucus was launched to do one thing: bring people together around the conservative principles laid out in the Idaho GOP platform.
The platform can be found here: https://idgop.org/party-resources/
So, no shocker, we try to craft and support policy that corresponds to the platform and fight against policies that contradict it.
That’s it.
It’s a sad day for Idaho (not that this is a new phenomenon) when Republicans don’t follow or even pretend to follow their own platform. For instance – the concept of “money following the student” is literally in this platform. Yet so many Republicans are fighting against our school choice bill.
The platform is also very free market-oriented, yet so many Republicans are voting for the Governor’s socialist free college voucher bill.
I also have a bill on the shelf to make it so the State Board of Education is elected instead of appointed. That specific language is also in the GOP platform, yet I’m getting pushback to just give it a print hearing.
I could go on and on, but you get it.
Here is why the Idaho Freedom Caucus exists.
- To rally around our platform
- To push the free market conservative policies found within it
- And to fight against every policy that contradicts it
There are many liberal Republicans in the state, who should probably have a D by their name instead of an R.
So we’ll continue to call attention to these things as they come up.
Stay tuned – we’re just getting started.
